This past summer, Jeremy, the kids and I went for a walk around our neighbourhood. The heat was INTENSE! On the way back, we decided to treat ourselves to a drink out. I ordered a dairy free frappuccino (half sweet) and it was perfection. As I was sipping away, I knew I had to try to make my own at home which is how this recipe came about.

Bought frappuccinos are PACKED with sugar and empty calories - but I think we can all agree they are delicious. My aim with this Homemade Java Chip Frappuccino was to make it low in sugar (so you can sip them all summer long) and try to find a way to pack some nutrients in it so that it is tummy filling as well. The addition of the dates and banana add the perfect amount of sweetness AND nutrients to help fuel your body rather than an energy crash.

With only 8 minutes to make this drink, what are you waiting for?!

Here is how to make them:

SERVING 2

PREP 8 mins / TOTAL TIME 8 minutes

Ingredients

~ ½ cup ea coffee and plant-based milk (I personally use oat mylk or canned coconut milk for the best results)

~ ½ Tbsp cocoa powder

~ ¼ cup ea dates, soaked in hot water for 10 minutes and dairy free chocolate chips

~ 1 frozen banana, chopped

~ 12 ice cubes

Optional: ½ tsp liquid vanilla stevia, coconut whip topping

Steps

1.Place coffee, plant-based milk, cocoa powder, banana, vanilla stevia if using and soaked dates (discard water) in a blender. Blend on high until smooth.

2.Place ice cubes and blend for 10 seconds in a high-powered blender. Next, place chocolate chips in the blender and blend for another 10 seconds or until ice is combined. Pour into two cups and top with coconut whip. Serve immediately.

Happy Drinking Friends!
